911 Dispatch & Communications

From the moment you call, dispatchers are with you—help starts immediately.

At our Communications Center, we deliver far more than basic 9-1-1 intake and ambulance dispatch—we provide life-saving guidance the moment a call is received. From the first seconds of an emergency, our dispatchers offer rapid response by coaching bystanders through critical interventions such as CPR or bleeding control until EMS professionals arrive. This real-time support bridges the gap between the emergency call and on-scene medical care.

Our team of highly trained dispatchers operate under the medical direction of Dr. Gary Lambert, Medical Director of Muskogee County Emergency Services.

We are proud to be housed within the consolidated Muskogee City-County 911 Center. This collaboration enhances coordination and strengthens communication among multiple emergency service agencies, allowing us to deliver faster, more effective responses for our community.

Team

Our team members are required to maintain certification through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) as Emergency Medical Dispatchers. We employ approximately 11 Emergency Medical Dispatchers, including personnel with certifications as Emergency Medical Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics. Our communications center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

As a team, our dispatchers manage the deployment of more than 20 ambulances, as well as multiple special event units. They are also responsible for locating resources, triaging calls, and providing medical self help instructions using the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) protocols. Recognized internationally, these protocols have been translated into 19 languages and are used worldwide. They enable dispatchers to guide callers through critical interventions such as childbirth, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), EpiPen administration, airway management, and many other lifesaving measures.

Equipment

We use a variety of tools to make sure help gets to you as quickly as possible, including Tyler Computer-Aided Dispatch, the CallWorks 911 phone system, Motorola 800 MHz Elite radios, mapping and location software, and text-to-911 services.

If English isn’t your first language, we can bring an interpreter on the line for almost any language. We can also connect with members of the deaf and hard of hearing community using Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD).

Accredited Center of Excellence

In 2000, MCEMS Communications became one of the first centers in Oklahoma and the 41st Internationally Accredited Center of Excellence. Accredited centers share a common goal of improving public care and maximizing the efficiency of 911 centers.

The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch has established a high standard of excellence for emergency dispatch and provides the tools to achieve this standard through certification at the dispatcher level and through the accreditation program at the communications center level.
